Thiago, do you think Paris is the best team in Europe right now?
"Honestly, it's difficult to answer that question, but when you look at the numbers and the statistics, you could say 'yes.' Even though others teams work well and get very good results, we're really happy with what we're producing on the pitch. Having said that, the season is long. We have to keep working to improve and play even better, and achieve our goals".
You mentioned statistics. Paris are putting up some incredible numbers right now...
"I've never played in a team that scores as many goals. Honestly, this is the best team in which I have played, mentally, physically and technically. We're really very good. But what I want to point out is that it's not only 11 players. It's a very unified, united squad, with players that push each other onwards and upwards. A successful team needs a strong and united squad, and that's what we are. We score a lot, it's not easy to score that many goals. We have an exceptional attack, but everyone takes part in our attacking. Thanks to that, we have the means to win a lot of trophies."
What do you like most about the team's style of play this season?
"I think it's the balance. We all defend and attack together. Teams often try to catch us out on the counter-attack, but we work a lot on our positioning. It's one of our real strong points. We carry out the coach's instructions, because we study our opponents a lot. We know what to expect from our opponents when the game starts. We're fortunate to have a lot of intelligent players who can adapt to positions and systems. My team-mates impress me a lot."
How would you define your role on the pitch as a defender and captain?
"Firstly, we apply the coach's strategy. Personally, as captain, I try to pass on that message, and that we keep that attitude to always want to win and always do better. Against Celtic, for example, we defended very high, almost on halfway, to reduce the space and allow our forwards to use their qualities. It's important for us to be aggressive in the right sense of the word. That's what enables us to win and create a lot of chances."
You have a difficult game coming up at Monaco on Sunday...
"I hope we'll continue improving and winning matches, that's the most important thing. We know it's never easy to play there. Last season, we lost 3-1. We played well, but it's the result that counts. We're ready. We still haven't lost in the league, we'll be ready for the challenge. When the match is as important as this, you have to find the motivation to win. We can go nine points clear and we're preparing ourselves for that."
